Shalom,
After the release of His people, the Hebrew Nation, Israel, from slavery in Egypt (1500 BCE – some say 1300 BCE) God instructed Moses to build Him a Tabernacle which would move along with them on their way to the Promised Land.
The Hebrew word for this Sanctuary is Mishcan (also Mikdash – Holy Place) – from the root שכן (Shin, Chaf, Nun) – which means: dwell, reside, settle, inhabit. It all relates to the Divine Purpose for this Tabernacle as expressed by God to Moses on his way through the Wilderness to the Promised Land:
Exodus 25:8
“And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”
This root also underlies the Word and Promise throughout, by God regarding His Presence (Shechinah) amongst His People. Thus He dwelt amongst His People in the Exodus, in the Tabernacle, and later in the 1st Temple built by Solomon in Jerusalem. At the destruction of this Temple in 586 BCE by the Assyrians, His Shechinah Presence left the nation (described by Ezekiel in Chapter 10). The 2nd Temple built by Herod in Jerusalem a few years before the start of the Common Era was completely devoid of this Presence of God, a factor which is not all that well known even amongst Bible students.
Ezekiel 37:26–28
“Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them – it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; and I will establish them, and multiply them, and will set My sanctuary in the midst of them forever.
My dwelling-place also shall be over them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
And the nations shall know that I am the LORD that sanctifies Israel, when My sanctuary shall be in the midst of them forever.”
And again in: Ezek. 11
Ezekiel 11:16–17, 20
“Thus saith the Lord GOD: Although I have removed them far off among the nations, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet have I been to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they are come.
That they may walk in My statutes, and keep Mine ordinances, and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God.”
From these Scriptures, it is clear that HaShem will live in His People who will then serve as a Living Tabernacle or Temple for Him. It is noteworthy that the Hebrew word used by the Prophet is בתוכם (betocham), which also means “within them”. There is a great difference between “His Sanctuary being in the midst of them, among them” as all translations render it, and “My Sanctuary being within them“. Refer to the red highlighted words in the Hebrew version of Ezek. 37:26, 28 here above.
That was His intention from the start. This time he will perfect those who qualify according to His considerations in the Final Judgment. He will perfect them and in this way establish for Himself a Living Tabernacle. Those who qualify will rule over the nations in His Universal Kingdom and the nations will come to bow down before them as they bow down to God – Who will be living within them.
Far fetched? Absurd?
READ it in Scripture:
Who shall the Ruler over the Nations be?
Daniel 7:13–14
“I saw in the night visions, and, behold, there came with the clouds of heaven one like unto a son of man…
And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away.”
Daniel was perturbed about this vision and the identity of those he saw coming on the Cloud ‘like the Son of Man’ and who received this rulership. He was told:
Daniel 7:27
“And the kingdom and the dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; their kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey them.”
This is the Perfect Temple
for believers to strive for.
Zechariah 2:14–16
“Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion; for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.
And many nations shall join themselves to the LORD in that day, and shall be My people, and I will dwell in the midst of thee…
And the LORD shall inherit Judah as His portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.”
Zechariah 14:9, 16–17
“And the LORD shall be King over all the earth; in that day shall the LORD be One, and His name one.
And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations… shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
And it shall be, that whoso of the families of the earth goeth not up unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, upon them there shall be no rain.”
Malachi 3:1
“Behold, I send My Messenger, and he shall clear the way before Me; and the Lord, whom ye seek, will suddenly come to His Temple, and the Messenger of the Covenant, whom ye delight in, behold, He cometh, saith HaShem of Hosts.”
