Texts: Genesis 18:1 – 22:24 || 2 Kings 4:1 – 4:37 (Haftarah)
NOTE: Kol HaTor, in its commentaries on the weekly Parashot, endeavours to search for and accentuate the Torah Messages contained in the Parashot as applicable to the main Theme of Tanach of the Return of the House of Israel, i.e. the Lost Ten Tribes of Northern Israel and their Reconciliation with Judah to form the reunited 12-Tribed Kingdom of Israel.

We will endeavour today to stay in context with our previous three Parashot.
We have traced G-d’s persistence through our previous Parashot, to fulfill His original Intention of creating mankind to rule with Him in His Eternal Kingdom.
In Parashat Va’yerah (“And He appeared”) we read about G-d’s direct intervention by appearing to Avraham and Lot, once more to wipe out an entire unrighteous and evil community, this time by raining fire and brimstone on Sodom. But throughout this Parashah and its Haftarah, LIFE prevails life through miraculous salvation and resurrection, thus re-birth.
- The saving of Isaac at the moment his father, Abraham, was ready to sacrifice him according to a Divine instruction which Abraham perceived.
- The saving of Lot, the only righteous man that G-d could find in Sodom.
- Most beautiful Sarah is restored to her husband and saved from being adulterated by another man.
- The Shunammite woman’s son restored to Life by the prophet Elisha.
Surely, the Message for us here (and in context with the rest of the Bible Message) is: That Life Eternal is part of HaShem’s intended “Package” for those who conform, those whom He will protect and miraculously save – like Isaac, Lot, Sarah and the Shunammite woman’s son?
This Parashah opens with a revealing though somewhat “hidden” statement in which G-d says it all:
Gen. 18:18 Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. 19 For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the Way of HaShem by doing what is right and just, so that HaShem will bring about for Abraham what He has promised him.
Thus: The Blessing of Abraham is conditional upon “keeping The Way of HaShem.” The rest is commentary and guidance on how to achieve this – as prescribed in the Word of G-d and interpreted and conveyed by His mandated “Lawgivers” (Hebrew: Mechoqeck), the spiritual leadership of Judah (Gen. 49:10, Ps. Ps 60:7; 108:8).
How do we know “The Way of HaShem”? From the Torah, the Word – or Divine Manual for Life. Much of this needs further interpretation though as the Torah (the first 5 Books of the Bible) does NOT present full and specific details of the requirements for properly walking this Way in life. The full details were given by G-d to Moses in the 40 days that Moses spent with G-d on Mt. Sinai. Moses was then instructed to write it down and to teach the nation. Moses merely summarized the major details as the Bible is not intended to be a copy of the Laws and System of G-d. Like any Law on earth, it needs interpretation by the courts and by legal experts as opportunities unfold to apply and to enforce the Laws in practice.
For your convenience and in conclusion of this commentary, we offer you to study the Bible’s position on the Divinely appointed Law jurisdiction System of the Bible. Please read it with the context of our 4 Parashot reviews in mind:
