We have reached the final week of the 3rd Series of the annual Biblical Festival Cycle – concluding in the joyous, festive celebration of Succot.
After the awesome 9th Av recollection of the evil that befell the Nation of HaShem for their lack of faith, we went through the 7 weeks count-down to this Great Final Culminating Festive Period on the Bible Calendar – Feasts that portray the Great Finale of this Age and the opening of the New World Age, that is the Final Redemption (Geulah) and the establishment of the Universal Kingdom of HaShem over the Nations. He will be ruling from Jerusalem ( a New Jerusalem) through ’His ‘Servant’ whom He has prepared (Isaiah Ch 40 – 49) as His Living Tempel in order for Him to dwell amongst His Nation and to rule over the Nations.
Looking at the metaphorical meanings of the 3 annual Biblical Festive seasons
– Pesach (1st month)
– Shavuot {3rd month) and
– Succot (7th month), we are struck with the anomaly that the meanings of the first two festivals are clear to us – but the third is vague and points to the future.
– Pesach = Release from bondage in Egypt;
– Shavuot = receiving the Constitution and Law foundations of God’s Kingdom on earth.
With all the conjectures of theological teachers on a Ruling Mashiach to come, it should therefore be quite logical that these 7th-month Festivals point to that future Time Promise of the Universal Kingdom ruled by the Creator from Jerusalem Center.
Such a prospective Kingdom requires territory, land, and a ruling government. Biblical Propheiesy by the Hebrew Prophets abound with such Promises of the Future Kingdom with Israel as it Head Quarters. When we bring the erection of such a Kingdom into our search for the metaphoric meaning of the 3rd Series of Festivals, it all falls into place naturally and logically, namely
- Pesach – The Foundational concept of Redemption: Release from pagan cultured captivity and moving to the Promised Land;
- Shavuot – establishing the Covenantal relationship with the Creator;
- Succot – Final fulfillment of the Dine Intention of establishing His Universal Kingdom. The 3 main festive ceremonies of this 3rd Cycle of Festivities then also automatically fall into place:
- 1st day of 7th month – Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets), featuring the Return of the Shechinah (Presence) of God;
- 10th day of 7th month – Yom Kippur: Judgment Day, on which the Creator will elect His Ruling Body and People through whom He shall reign over the nations in a “Living Temple”, with them serving as the living vessels, perfected by Him in Torah (under a New Covenant Jeremiah Ch 31);
- 15th day of 7th month – Succot, a 7-day joyful Feast at the final conclusion of the Sacred Festive Cycle. We would like to believe and suggest that this 7-day Feast celebrates the Royal Wedding, which seals the intimate personal relationship with the Creator of those who succeed in the Final Judgment and who become elected under a New Covenant to be the Living Temple thru which He will rule over the Nations.
- Final and 8th Day of Succot – Smichah Torah (Joy of the Torah) and the Eighth Day, depicting the 7th millennium and Universal Kingdom Rule – the Ultimate Divine Goal for humanity then completed.
With this Joyous Festive Concluding of the Divine Objective for Mankind, His Creation, we can understand why the Haftarah Reading for Succot (coming from the 1st chapter of the book of Joshua) is called “Vezot HaBracha’ (and this is the Blessing). It defines the Final Entry into the Promised Land, after the dwelling in the Wilderness having left Egypt, as well as the conditions for entry.
This all is merely the fulfillment of the Original Blessing to Abraham. The Blessing of Blessings which entails all mankind. To fully comprehend and receive the Scriptural confirmation for this wide and generally unfamiliar Divine Declaration, it is vital to read the Blessing of Abraham.
