We’ve finally started traveling in the desert. . . and the people immediately complain? Did they suddenly forget that they had just been so close with God? And how can we understand, and relate, to this seemingly ungrateful, chutzpadik nation? Check out more Torah videos at www.alephbeta.org/
This week, we ask an incredibly broad question: What is the purpose of the nation of Israel in this world? To answer this, Rabbi Fohrman points out a fascinating connection between the three blessings Balaam (accidentally) gives the nation of Israel and the three blessings God gives to Abraham in Genesis. These links, Rabbi Fohrman […]
This Blog is compiled from Parashat and Haftorat Balak:
Parahah from TORAH: NUMBERS 22:2-25
Haftorah from PROPHETS: MICAH 5:6-6:8
In Jewish synagogue services the Torah is read in 52 weekly Parashot sections consecutively every year. The insight of the Jewish Sages in having paired up each Parashah with a section from the Prophetic books of the Tanach is astounding. This becomes evident from the fact that this pairing up does not change annually and it is eerie how these readings are ever so often echoed by leading international news events of that same week to confirm the accuracy of Bible prophecy. In general, These Haftorahs encapsulate and expound on the theme of the Parshah for the week.
Unfortunately, while commentaries on the Parashot abound weekly (on Internet these days), reviews of the Haftorot do not receive the same prominence generally. Haftorat Balak this week (from the book of the Prophet Micah), has a specially important concluding Message for the Time that we are living in.

The Conservative Yeshiva, in its Haftarah Commentary on Parashat Eikev mentions a Midrash according to which people will not know how to digest God’s redemptive actions when Consolation comes. Even when good things happen, past trauma will diminish their ability to acknowledge them. In this video, Rabbi Machlis presents an exciting call from the Prophetic […]
Treasured Reconciliation Activators in the Tanach – #3
Delving into well hidden factors in the Scriptures which can positively advance the Drive towards Reconciliation and hence Geulah – if we only would care to confront it rather than sweep it under the carpet
Our Reconciliation Activator #3 this week is derived from delving into the wider meaning of the Hebrew Word ַקְּלָלָה – Klallah – Curse, as opposed to ארירה – Arirah. The lack of thorough Hebrew understanding and the horror of confusion caused by translations in various Bible versions conceal the true Message and Guidelines for reaching Reconciliation amongst the entire Family and Nation of Israel which had been divided and devastated by Exile of Both Houses of Israel…
Such ideas (as proclaimed in this passage of Prophecy) would be taken as pure fantasy, wildly impossible, not even realistic enough to qualify as utopian. Since this week’s haftarah asserts that all of those will happen, I wondered, then as now, what it means when even Orthodox Jews, who claim to believe that God speaks through the prophets, do not believe these prophecies will or can ever come true…
Restoring the exiled seeds of Abraham and Sarah from the Paternal line to their Jewish ancestry (Parashat Ki Tavo)
“Referring to those who have Jewish DNA from their paternal – but not maternal – side, Zera Yisrael! It is especially incumbent upon us to reclaim these exiled seeds of Abraham and Sarah and restore them to their land and their Jewish ancestry!”
Though this preview in our Haftarah Isa. 60 (which is all about the Final Redemption) is credited to the Arrival of Mashiach, there is no such mention of a Mashiach in this Haftarah…
