As an unofficial spokesman for Ephraim, we do understand the eye for eye, tooth for tooth as not literal but financial compensation.
How ever we Ephraimites do need to learn that Levite priest will always be required to minister before Hashem, the pastors picked from ordinary people will never be accepted, the same as it was for Jeroboam. Ask Ezekiel what he thought after laying on his side for 390 days, eating nothing but beans cooked over cow dung. “What!!…. they still don’t understand”
