Shalom [subscriber:firstname | default:dear friend],
In last week’s Newsletter we took the audacious step to publish the concept underlying Rabbi Feld’s 400 page book about the “Halachic and Oral Torah foundations of the New Testament.” Our normal readership rate more than doubled! We also forwarded it to several Facebook forums dealing with Torah and Restoration, where it received wide readership and comments.

One such comment and enquiry highlighted what probably is the most pertinent question especially amongst our non-Jewish readers:

“Was there an Oral Torah when Moshe taught the Israelites?”

This question was also ignited in my mind by the recent find of an Amulet in the foundations of Joshua’s Altar on Mt. Eval in Shomron, Israel. This Amulet featured a Hebrew alphabet which was 200 years older than any other Hebrew Alphabet known to date – nothing like the Hebrew alphabet that we know today. It was partly hieroglyphics (Egyptian). It raised questions for me about what alphabet Moses used to write the first copy of the Torah? When did he write it? How much of what we know as the Hebrew Bible today (the Masoretic Text) was written inb those times and when?

So, I started some research into these questions. I searched "canonization of the Hebrew Bible" and what I discovered completely overturned my previously held concepts gained over a study period of 60 years! – topsy-turvy!

This enabled me to attempt an answer to the above question: “Was there an Oral Torah when Moshe taught the Israelites?” So, I shared some of the conclusions that my recent search after the Amulet find led me to:
“Moshe had no writing tools compared to today’s standards. There were no printing presses, no radio, TV. In fact, there was not even a Hebrew alphabet in Moshe's time. Moshe had a 40-day Crash course, verbally, with the Creator on Mt Sinai regarding how to run a Universe! Imagine. It requires a building-size library for that. God wrote 10 Words only with His Finger on stone! The Bible contains a few hundred pages only, one book - presenting VERY limited specifications on any of its guidelines. The rest was all ORAL - orally discussed and conveyed for centuries. The 1st fully compiled Hebrew Bible appeared only … now absorb this! … between the years 700 – 1000 CE, i.e. only some 1000 years ago! And even that was centuries before the printing press could mass provide books - when most people could not read!!! (14th century).

The rest was ORALLY transmitted by Jewish teachers throughout the ages, stemming down from Moses’ time. And the publication of the Mishnah occurred approximately 200 CE – that is 2000 years ago. The Talmud has two components; the Mishnah and the Gemarah (500 CE), It was all based on Oral Torah teachings stemming from the time of Moses and as conveyed and guarded by the Jews (Gen. 49:10, Romans 3:2 for our NT readers).

Then, 2000 years ago, came also Christianity, born out of a Jewish Messianic sect. Now Pagans got involved in an anti-Jewish bred attempt to root out Torah Judaism which became popularly accepted in the Roman Empire - some 10% of the Roman population. A Roman Emperor then declared the death penalty to Jews for further conversions of the Roman nation.

Who shall we now listen to and follow? Who does God want us to listen to? A MUST READ on this topic is our article "Judah the Lawgiver of God"

May these messages assist in promoting the Unity to advance and proceed to the Final Redemption (Geulah} – the Time Period of which it seems that we are now entering towards the end of this 6th Millennium – the Time of Trouble, birth pangs of the Shabbat Millennium with all its Blessings …
Wishing you HaShem’s richest Blessings!
